S’mores in the Hood

I hope everybody enjoyed the weekend as much as we did! We were busy catching up on things around the house, since life is always crazy starting around Halloween and just doesn’t let up until mid-January! There were some long overdue chores that have been finding their way on our to-do list. We got most of them done and even had a hot second to enjoy some last minute s’mores with our neighbors one night!

As RV’ers, we keep s’mores fixings around constantly for any upcoming camping trips. They’re a staple in our house now. We also had some York peppermint patties on hand, and I remember seeing some pinterest s’mores ideas, so I threw those into the mix. The verdict from campfire night was “stick with traditional”. We’ll see how they feel next time when I throw in some Reese’s!! I fully intend to use each of my Pinterest S’more Recipe links to make our Hood S’more nights more interesting!

What did you do this weekend?

The Styx of Alabama

Through Camping World, we were offered a stay at Styx River RV Park (or a few other locations under Ocean Canyon Properties) in exchange for listening to a 90 minute sales pitch about their membership program. Me, being the cheap financially frugal person that I am, very rarely say “no” to free. So this wasn’t any different. I quickly called and got us signed up for our free 3-night camping trip. A few weeks later, I started googling the management property. Why? I haven’t a clue. I read gosh awful things about everybody’s horrible experience. Being pressured even after saying no, the 90 mins quickly turning into 4 hours, etc. After reading all this, I almost cancelled because I was worried it would be too much of a headache, even for a free trip. I decided it was worth the memories we could make that weekend, and we’ would survive a pushy salesman. Oh, and I forgot to mention that we would also receive a $100 Camping World gift certificate. So they’d be paying us for our trip. So…we were off!

Asheville Adventure

Once we wrapped up our Tennessee fall trip, we hit the road and headed straight for Asheville. We have a weak spot for the gorgeous Biltmore Estate and couldn’t wait to show our son all around! They absolutely need to have a campground on the Estate, I would love to stay on the property in the RV! We toured the Estate, walked the gardens, and even fit in the wine tasting I had previously missed out on in Gatlinburg! {Winning!} It was an awesome day and we definitely could’ve used another day there! On a side note: I highly recommend hitting up the Candlelit Tour during the Christmas holiday, it’s amazing!

For this trip we stayed at Taps RV Park about 15 minutes from the Biltmore. Here’s the campground review for that park.

Tennessee Trip

It’s been a while since we’ve seen fall in the mountains…make that a long while. Our fall foliage trip this year consisted of a few nights in Pigeon Forge, followed by 2 nights in Asheville, NC. We stayed at Bear Cove Village, which is down the street from Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN. You can check out our Bear Cove Village reviews if you’re interested in visiting this great campground! We thoroughly enjoyed driving around in the mountains and seeing all the beautiful colors!
